Universal RS-232-driver for BORIS

- Defining the interface parameters: baud rate, number of data bits, number of stop bits etc.
- Writing of the protocols for the hardware via the protocol dialog
- Debugging and testing the protocols
Most important is the second step, the writing of the protocols. Exactly at this point the most powerful tool of the BORIS RS-232-interface goes into action. Structured in tables you clearly see what data is to be sent or to be received. By a simple button click you can decide which data types (byte, Word, ASCII etc.) you will send or receive and which sending or receiving table entry shall be interpreted as block input resp. output. Furthermore: By inserting functions you are able to refer to other fields and to execute operations within them. Table entries which contain functions are processed but not sent. By them type conversions and loop constructs are possible. Very helpful for the development of your protocols is the debugging tool. You can step by step observe your defined protocol working.
Some application areas of the RS-232-interface of BORIS:
| Communication with simple systems with RS-232 support like eg. other PCs | |
| More complex bus systems like eg. profibus, CAN-Bus etc. | |
| Modem connection for remote inquiry of systems | |
| SPS interfacing | |
| and, and, and... | |
The following screenshot shows as an example a possible dialog for the definition of the interface protocol.
